"Get this message out to America - everybody can have the
presence of God!" This message is being carried through the airwaves as
people across America
tune in to The Steve & Kathy Show. Using the medium of humor, satire,
and hard-hitting truth, Steve and Kathy Gray are presenting a side to Christian
TV that's rarely seen.
Accurately diagnosing the problem of powerless and
ineffective Christianity so prevalent in our society, Steve and Kathy Gray are
also providing the solution that will save America and save the church. They
are not afraid to speak up and expose the absurdities of our religion and put
the presence of God back where it belongs.
Tackling a wide range of topics such as terrorism, women in
ministry, end times theology, and the Jews, The Steve & Kathy Show
is both thought-provoking and, at times, controversial. "We're not trying
to alienate people," Steve Gray explains, "but to pull people out of
dead, dull religion."
Humor plays a big role in the presentation of these
otherwise serious topics. Unafraid to poke fun at the religious system of which
they have been full-time ministers for 30 years, the Grays are also willing to
create some laughter at their own expense. Don't be surprised to see Steve and
Kathy in some of the skits and spoofs used on the show. Recent episodes
featured appearances of Steve and Kathy as the Beverly Hillbillies, Archie and
Edith Bunker, and Romeo and Juliet caught in the throes of the battle of
denominations. This "humor with a message" is tearing down walls and
opening people's hearts - religious and secular alike - to the true message of
Christianity.
Gray strongly believes "Americans have no problem with
God," but that the problem lies with the way religion has presented God.
As one viewer said recently, "The show ... grabbed my attention because it
really hit on what I was feeling. I believe in God, but have struggled with
going to church. I have no problem with God, but I do with religion."
No stranger to the religious system in America, Gray
himself has experienced the effect of dead, ineffective Christianity. In 1996,
he was ready to quit the ministry. "I preached what I thought was my last
sermon, wondering if I would ever return to the pulpit." But on March 24,
1996, Gray experienced what he describes as the lightnings of God that
catapulted him and his entire congregation into revival - an outpouring of
God's presence that attracted this nation and the world's attention.
The concept of The Steve & Kathy Show was
birthed out of this experience, coupled with the understanding that the typical
American church is not giving us the power and presence of God our nation so
desperately needs. As our nation faces the war on terror, Steve and Kathy Gray
are waging their own war on powerless Christianity. Gray believes "The
church's job is to bring the presence of God to people and to give America 'the
God advantage', especially when it's facing societal ills such as broken
families, rising suicide rates and random acts of violence - as well as
world-scale issues like rising oil prices and terrorism."
Winner of 29 Telly Awards, a prestigious international award
honoring outstanding video and film productions, The Steve & Kathy Show
is a quality half-hour show that will entertain and endear you to the message
and the ministry of Steve and Kathy Gray. Determined to change the face of
religion in America,
they've found a fresh and funny way to confront the absurdities of the American
church and bring people a religion that works.
